Gold Camp Road is one of Colorado's great hidden gems — a rugged mountain route carved from the bed of an 1890s narrow-gauge gold mining railway, winding through some of the most dramatic canyon scenery in the Pikes Peak region. The route passes through hand-blasted rock tunnels, hugs canyon walls hundreds of feet above creek beds, and delivers sweeping panoramic views across Colorado Springs to the eastern plains. What to Expect on Your Gold Camp Road Bike Tour
Your tour departs from the Pikes Peak Adventure Center in Old Colorado City. After fitting you with Trek mountain bikes, your guide leads the group into the Cheyenne Canyon area where Gold Camp Road begins its climb. You'll follow the original bed of the Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek District Railway — the "Short Line" — past towering sandstone walls, through historic tunnels blasted from solid rock in the 1890s, and along ridgelines with panoramic views. The tour covers 8–12 miles depending on conditions and takes approximately 2.5–3 hours.
