All the History, None of the Suffering
Gold Camp Road is one of Colorado's most dramatic mountain routes — carved from the bed of an 1890s narrow-gauge gold mining railway, winding through Cheyenne Canyon past rock faces, tunnel portals, and ridge lines with sweeping views across Colorado Springs to the eastern plains. On a regular mountain bike, the climb is a serious workout. On one of our Trek e-bikes, it's effortless. Electric pedal-assist carries you up the canyon while you focus on the views, the history, and the thrill of ducking through tunnels blasted from solid rock over 130 years ago.
Why E-Bike Gold Camp Road?
The regular Gold Camp Road tour is rated intermediate — there's real climbing involved on dirt and gravel roads. The e-bike version opens this experience to everyone. Whether you're a casual rider who wants to experience one of Colorado Springs' most impressive landscapes without the burn, a traveler who's been on their feet all week and wants a fun activity without exhaustion, or simply someone who wants to go further and see more — the e-bike version is the smarter way to do Gold Camp Road. The history, the tunnels, and the views are identical. The effort required is dramatically less.
What to Expect on Your E-Bike Gold Camp Road Tour
Your tour begins at the Pikes Peak Adventure Center in Old Colorado City, where your guide fits you with a Trek e-bike and safety gear. The e-bikes are intuitive — a brief orientation and you'll be comfortable within minutes. From the Adventure Center, the group rides into the Cheyenne Canyon area where Gold Camp Road begins its climb through the canyon. The electric assist activates as you pedal, making the elevation gain feel like flat ground. You'll ride through historic rock tunnels hand-blasted from solid granite in the 1890s, stop at canyon ridge viewpoints with panoramic views across Colorado Springs, and hear the story of the Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek District Railway — the "Short Line" — that carried gold rush fortunes down from Cripple Creek for decades. The tour covers 8–12 miles and takes approximately 2.5–3 hours round trip.
